US Sentencing Commission releases geographic FY 2024 sentencing data

The US Sentencing Commission has today posted here on its website “FY24 GEOGRAPHIC SENTENCING DATA.”  As explained on the site, these detailed “reports examine federal sentencing statistics from each judicial district, the districts within each judicial circuit, and the districts within each state.  Each report compares the statistics from the respective district, circuit, or state to the nation as a whole.”

The webpage has a very cool graphic of the United States which highlights the number of FY 2024 federal sentencings by district, and it also provides an effective way to access data reports for each federal district.  The graphic and the detailed data reports reveal ways in which there are, in many senses, 94 distinct federal sentencing systems rather than just one.
