US Sentencing Commission to start extended hearings more proposed drug and supervised release amendments

As detailed on this page on its website, the US Sentencing Commission has a public hearing scheduled “for Wednesday, March 12 and Thursday, March 13, 2025 tentatively beginning at 9:00 a.m. (EDT) on both days … to receive testimony from invited expert witnesses on proposed amendments to the federal sentencing guidelines relating to supervised release and drug offenses.”  That page provides the full agenda for this public hearing, which lists more than 30 scheduled witnesses during more than a dozen panels over the two days.

The USSC’s webpage includes links to all of the scheduled witnesses’ written testimony, and the live webstream of the hearings will also be available on the page.  I doubt I will not be able to watch all the hearings, but I am ever eager to praise the Commission for creating such an open, thorough and transparent process for considering proposed amendments to the US Sentencing Guidleines.  At a time of great sturm und drang about the functions and functioning of many aspects of the federal government, I think the Commission’s work makes the process of federal policy-making look good even if one does not always agree with final policy outcomes.
