US Sentencing Commission moving forward with ambitious guideline amendment plans

Via email, I received word from the US Sentencing Commission about new activities and resources associated with its many notable new guideline amendment proposals. Here are excerpt from the email with links to the USSC’s webpage with more details:

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

The Commission has scheduled a public hearing for Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. (EST). The Commission will livestream and record this event. At the meeting, Commissioners will receive testimony from invited witnesses on proposed amendments relating to the career offender guideline, firearms offenses, simplification, and circuit conflicts.

PUBLIC COMMENT (Feb 6)

The Commission is currently accepting comment on several proposed amendments and issues for comment (Federal Register Notices).  An original public comment period remains open on the following:

Proposed Amendments on Supervised Release and Drug Offenses (Deadline: March 3, 2025)

Issue for Comment on Retroactivity (Deadline: April 18, 2025)

Issue for Comment on Fentanyl, Fentanyl Analogues, and Other Opioids (Deadline: May 1, 2025)

The original comment period has closed on proposed amendments relating to career offenders, firearms offenses, simplification, and circuit conflicts and a reply comment period is now open through February 18, 2025.
